The Idea of Progress will be in Portland, Oregon for the week following Christmas. Posts may be either non-existent or irregular (not in the bowel sense). I've never been to Portland before. Here's what I expect:

-Salmon

Any suggestions from anyone as to where I should visit?

I hate hippies! I mean, the way they always talk about "protectin' the earth" and then drive around in cars that get poor gas mileage and wear those stupid bracelets - I hate 'em! I wanna kick 'em in the nuts!

McMennamins! See what's playing there and have BEER. I don't know about the hippies, though. More like Hipsters. Salmon aren't running this time of year, so leave the waders at home and nix the fishing idea.

I grew up about an hour away from Portland. Be prepared for the following: men in clogs; potent weed; rain turning to showers tapering off to a steady drizzle.
I like Powell's bookstore, a hotbed for hippies but they won't bother you if you sit real still.
I wish I had been paying closer attention, since *I* was in Portland over Christmas!
